Job Description

The Program Director for the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing programs that align with the Caucus's mission of advocating for equity, inclusion, and the advancement of Georgia's Black communities.

This role requires strategic planning, program development, stakeholder engagement, and operational excellence across GLBC's full slate of signature programs.

Strategic Program Management

  • The Program Director will develop and execute a comprehensive program strategy that aligns with GLBC's goals and objectives.

  • The Program Director will oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all GLBC programs.

  • The Program Director will establish performance metrics to evaluate program success and impact.

 

Program Development and Oversight

  • The Program Director will manage the GLBC Legislative Internship, including recruitment, onboarding, and mentorship of interns, and will develop educational modules and networking opportunities.

  • The Program Director will design the curriculum for the GLBC Capitol Academy, focusing on legislative processes, civic engagement, and leadership development, and will coordinate workshops and guest speakers.

  • The Program Director will organize the annual GLBC Black College Tour to historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), ensuring impactful student experiences and partnerships with educational institutions.

  • The Program Director will plan and execute the GLBC For the People Tour, a statewide effort to engage communities on key legislative issues and foster dialogue and action.

 

Stakeholder Engagement

  • The Program Director will build and maintain relationships with community leaders, educational institutions, legislators, and sponsors.

  • The Program Director will serve as the primary point of contact for program-related inquiries and partnerships.

  • The Program Director will represent GLBC at public events, conferences, and meetings.

 

Budget and Resource Management

  • The Program Director will develop and manage program budgets in collaboration with GLBC's leadership.

  • The Program Director will identify funding opportunities, including grants and sponsorships, to support program sustainability.

Qualifications

Qualifications

The Program Director needs strong strategic planning, program management, and relationship-building skills, along with sound judgment about GLBC's mission and community priorities.

​

Bachelor's degree in public policy, nonprofit management, education, political science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

​

Demonstrated experience developing and managing multiple programs simultaneously, ideally in a nonprofit, government, or advocacy setting.

​

Experience designing curriculum or educational programming, such as internships, academies, or leadership development initiatives.

​

Proven track record of building partnerships with community leaders, educational institutions, legislators, and sponsors.

Experience developing and managing program budgets, and identifying and securing grants or sponsorships.

​

Strong supervisory experience, including training and developing staff and volunteers.

​

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing promotional materials, reports, and updates for varied audiences.

​

Familiarity with Georgia politics and an understanding of the mission and priorities of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus is preferred.

 

Salary Range


The salary range for this position is negotiable commensurate with experience.

Job Description

The Communications and Media Coordinator manages the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus's public-facing voice, producing and coordinating the content that tells the story of the Caucus's work to members, partners, media, and the public.

​

The Coordinator develops and executes content across the Caucus's website, social media, email, and print materials, and supports the communications needs of the Chair, Executive Director, and Executive Board throughout the legislative session and beyond.​

​

In addition to regular content production, the Coordinator helps capture and package the Caucus's legislative work, events, and member accomplishments for use in fundraising, donor communications, and public advocacy.

Content Development and Production

  • The Communications and Media Coordinator will plan, write, and produce content for the Caucus website, social media platforms, and email newsletters.

  • The Coordinator will develop a content calendar aligned with the legislative session, Caucus events, and key advocacy moments.

  • The Coordinator will design or coordinate the design of graphics, videos, and other multimedia content to support Caucus messaging.

  • The Coordinator will photograph and/or coordinate photo and video coverage of Caucus events, press conferences, and legislative sessions.

  • The Coordinator will draft media releases, talking points, and social media content in coordination with the Executive Director and Chair.

 

Media and Public Relations

  • The Coordinator will help maintain relationships with local and statewide media contacts.

  • The Coordinator will monitor press coverage and social media mentions of the Caucus and its members.

  • The Coordinator will assist in organizing press conferences and other public-facing Caucus events.

  • The Coordinator will help prepare briefing materials and messaging guidance for members and spokespeople.

 

Digital Platforms and Brand Management

  • The Coordinator will manage and update the Caucus website, ensuring content is accurate, current, and on-brand.

  • The Coordinator will manage the Caucus's social media accounts, including posting, community engagement, and performance tracking.

  • The Coordinator will maintain and help enforce the Caucus's brand and style guidelines across all materials.

  • The Coordinator will track and report on content and social media performance metrics to inform future strategy.

​

Reporting Structure

The Communications and Media Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus. The Coordinator will also work closely with the Chair, Executive Board, and full GLBC Members, coordinating content needs across the Caucus's committees and initiatives.

​

The Coordinator should provide regular updates on content production, media coverage, and digital performance to the Executive Director.

 

This position may require evening and weekend hours, particularly during the legislative session and around Caucus events.

Responsibilities

Qualifications

The Communications and Media Coordinator needs strong writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills, along with sound judgment about the Caucus's public voice and brand.

​

At least two years of experience in communications, media, content creation, or a related role; experience in politics, advocacy, or nonprofit communications is a plus.

​

Familiarity with tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp), and social media tools.

​

Working understanding for managing social media platforms and analyzing content performance.

​

Proficiency with content and design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar; experience with website content management systems (e.g., Wix).​​

​

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, particularly during the fast pace of the legislative session.

​

Familiarity with Georgia politics and an understanding of the mission and priorities of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus is preferred.​

​

Experience with photography and/or basic video production and editing is a plus.
